The Volkswagen Taigun, first launched in India back in September 2021 is now preparing for a mid life update. Test models of the facelift have been spotted on Indian roads confirming that the SUV will receive exterior styling changes, cabin updates and new safety technology.
The most important addition could be the introduction of Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems which is increasingly becoming a must-have in the compact SUV market. With this update the Taigun will be better equipped to take on established players like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and upcoming rivals like the Tata Curvv.
Spy photos of the facelift reveal that Volkswagen has covered the SUV with heavy camouflage at the front and rear. This suggests that most of the styling changes will be made to these areas
Key exterior updates expected include
On the sides most of the familiar details are retained such as the bold wheel arch cladding, body colored door handles, roof rails and blacked out B pillars. However Volkswagen is expected to launch new exterior paint options to make the facelifted version stand out.
The interior has not been fully revealed yet since the prototype had a covered cabin. However based on reports and industry expectations several upgrades are likely to be included
Expected changes inside the facelifted SUV
While many buyers might expect a panoramic sunroof, early reports suggest that this feature may not be offered. This could be seen as a drawback since most rivals provide it in higher trims.
Safety is one of the biggest talking points of the 2025 Taigun facelift. Volkswagen is preparing to offer Level 2 ADAS, which is already present in competitors like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and MG Astor
The new ADAS system is likely to include
These additions will complement the existing safety kit that already includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, rear parking sensors and inside rearview mirrors with built in functions.
The facelifted SUV is not expected to receive any major changes under the hood. The current engine lineup is likely to be carried forward
1.0 liter TSI petrol– Produces 115 hp and 178 Nm available with either a 6 speed manual or 6 speed torque converter automatic
1.5 liter TSI petrol– Delivers 150 hp and 250 Nm, paired with a 6 speed manual or the popular 7 speed DSG automatic gearbox
There are also reports that Volkswagen might replace the current 6-speed automatic with a new 8 speed automatic transmission. This would improve driving comfort and efficiency
Both engines are already known for their strong performance and refined character. With some fine tuning, the facelift could also offer slightly better mileage figures
The Taigun is currently priced between Rs 10.99 lakh and Rs 19.83 lakh (ex showroom). With the facelift bringing in high end features like ADAS, a 360 degree camera and more premium materials, prices are expected to rise
While exact pricing will be revealed closer to launch buyers should be prepared for a slight premium compared to the outgoing model
The compact SUV market in India is one of the most competitive. With its facelift the Taigun will try to gain ground against rivals that already offer modern features and premium interiors
Key rivals include
By offering ADAS, improved interiors and updated styling Volkswagen aims to position the facelifted Taigun as a stronger rival in this crowded segment
The 2025 Volkswagen Taigun facelift is shaping up to be more than just a minor update. With new styling, premium interior upgrades and the much needed addition of Level 2 ADAS the SUV is set to become a stronger contender in the segment
The engines will continue to deliver the same strong performance but with the possibility of improved transmission options and fuel efficiency. While prices are likely to increase, the facelift will bring the Taigun closer to what modern Indian SUV buyers demand: advanced safety, connected tech and a premium feel
When launched it will directly renew its fight with heavyweights like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos while also preparing to face newer competition. This facelift shows how Volkswagen is serious about adapting its global design and safety standards to the Indian automobile market
