BMW 1 Series design patented in India
BMW India has registered two design patents in India – the 1 Series and Skytop roadster. The 1 Series is expected to be launched along with the 2 Series Gran Coupe and will be positioned below the 2 Series, as the brand’s entry-level model.
The new BMW 1 Series made its debut in June last year. It is based on the UKL2 platform. It is offered in three variants: 120, 120d, and M135.
Built on the same platform as its predecessor, the latest 1 Series has undergone significant upgrades featuring bold design and advanced features.
The fourth-generation BMW 1 Series receives significant design enhancements, most notably a reimagined front fascia. The tooth-like kidney grille of the outgoing model has been replaced by a sleeker grille design, inspired by the latest 3 Series.
Inside, the 1 Series features BMW’s 20-inch Curved Display controlled by OS 9 software, including a 10.7-inch digital instrument display and a 10.3-inch infotainment system, while the circular iDrive controller has been removed and physical buttons, including AC controls, have been significantly reduced.
In the international market, BMW offers multiple engine options with the fourth-gen 1 Series including both petrol and diesel powertrain, all of them assisted by a 48V mild-hybrid setup. The standard 118 variant which is expected to come to India is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine which churns out 168 bhp while the base diesel trim gets a 1.5-litre oil burner which punches out 148 bhp.
Notably, the BMW 1 Series was launched in India way back in 2013, due to low sales for several years, the automaker discontinued it in 2017.
