Honda Eyeing Towards Launching 13 Hybrid Cars

As part of a major update, Honda Motor Co. said it will bring 13 new hybrid models to the world market by 2030, reducing its focus on electric vehicles (EVs) because of weak demand.

Instead of aiming for 30% of global sales from EVs by 2030, the business’ new target is 20%. In addition, Honda has lowered the total amount it will invest in EVs, from 10 trillion yen to 7 trillion yen (around USD 45 billion).

Company representatives say that upcoming hybrid vehicles will use the latest e:HEV hybrid system, feature an all-new AWD system and be built on a lighter platform. Thanks to the technology, fuel economy is likely to be improved by more than 10%, helping the performance of both small and midsize cars.

“Customer preferences and regional infrastructure differences make hybrids an essential bridge toward full electrification,” a spokesperson for Honda released the statement.

From 2027, both new and old markets will get the chance to explore models as Audi continues its new hybrid rollout. At present, hybrid models offered by Honda are the Accord Hybrid, Civic e:HEV, CR-V Hybrid and City e:HEV. “Customer preferences and regional infrastructure differences make hybrids an essential bridge toward full electrification,” a spokesperson for Honda released the statement.

Using the Performance Hybrid System for Larger Networks

At the same time, Honda is building a hybrid system focused on performance for its bigger vehicles. These will be available in the second half of this decade, serving consumers who care more about performance than saving fuel.

EV innovations are being developed in Honda’s 0 Series

Honda will still play a role in electric vehicles. The company announced that 2026 would see the debut of its Honda 0 Series of electric sedans and SUVs, as reported earlier. They will come with Level 3 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) so that you can drive with limited hands in some situations.

Several new product introductions are planned for India, where Honda continues to do well. These include:

Honda expects hybrid vehicles to take the lead in India, as EV charging structures aren’t yet completely set up.

Industry Context

A wider change in the industry is clear, as more carmakers pause their electrification targets due to unequal EV ownership. BloombergNEF reported that only 18% more electric cars were sold in early 2025 than the previous year, sharply less than the 43% increase in 2022 because of shortages in battery materials, cost issues and worried EV owners facing charging issues.

Hybrids, since they don’t need special charging systems and save on fuel, are becoming more popular again, mainly in areas where rules are changing.
