- The plant will assemble two electric SUV models: VF6 and VF7, with an initial annual capacity of 50,000 units, scalable up to 150,000 units.
- VinFast has set its sights on transforming the Thoothukudi plant into a major export hub catering to South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
Vietnamese electric vehicle maker has inaugurated its first plant in India at Tuticorin in south Tamil Nadu.
Initially, the facility will assemble two premium electric SUV models, VF 7 and VF 6, and roll out 50,000 vehicles per year. Moreover, it is scalable to 1,50,000 units annually.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin inaugurated the plant in the presence of VinFast Asia, CEO Pham Sanh Chau, with the roll out of the premium VF7 car.
VinFast is entering India’s fast-growing EV market, which remains largely dominated by domestic brands like Tata Motors and Mahindra in the affordable segment and Hyundai and MG Motor in the premium space.
Notably, VinFast Tamil Nadu is the company’s third operational plant and the fifth project in its global manufacturing network.
VinFast is tying up with 13 dealership groups to set up 32 retail points across 27 urban centres and the inaugural outlets have started to function already. The expansion covers major metropolitan areas along with emerging zones centred around electric mobility.
The Vietnamese carmaker is pursuing a comprehensive EV ecosystem in India, with partnerships for both distribution and after-sales. It has teamed up with RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure to offer robust digital services and nationwide service support. myTVS plans to open 120 service workshops, ensuring customer confidence across key cities.
