Kia is expanding its electric vehicle plans in India. After introducing premium EVs such as the EV6 and EV9 the company is now focusing on the mass-market segment. It recently launched the Carens Clavis EV, and the next big launch will be the Kia Syros EV. The upcoming model was recently seen testing in Kochi spotted by auto enthusiast Sharon Satheesan at a public charging station. Fresh spy shots give a closer look at the SUV and reveal important details about what to expect

Exterior Design – Similar To ICE Syros

Kia Syros EV exterior
From the outside, the Syros EV looks almost identical to the petrol and diesel-powered Syros. The test mule was heavily camouflaged on the front, rear and up to the window line, but many familiar parts can still be seen.

  • The pillars, roof rails, and ORVMs look unchanged compared to the ICE version.
  • A shark fin antenna is clearly visible.
  • The road stance and dimensions appear to be the same as the regular Syros.

However, since this is an EV, some changes will naturally be there. The model will feature a closed grille and a charging port. An earlier prototype seen in South Korea had the charging slot placed on the left side. The same camouflaged vehicle also showed lighting units that looked very similar to the ICE model. Minor styling changes at the front and rear are possible, but the overall look will stay consistent.

The side profile will largely remain unchanged as well, with the possibility of EV-specific badges. The test car in South Korea had the same alloy wheels as the ICE model but featured green brake calipers, confirming its EV setup. Badging at the rear is also expected to highlight the electric nature of the vehicle.

Dimensions And Colors

The Kia Syros EV is expected to keep the same size as the ICE model:

  • Length: 3,995 mm
  • Width: 1,805 mm
  • Height: 1,680 mm
  • Wheelbase: 2,550 mm

Some unique paint options may be introduced for the EV, although the standard Syros is already offered in eight monotone shades.

Battery, Range, And Performance

While Kia has not shared official specifications the Syros EV is likely to use the same battery packs as the Hyundai Inster EV. That model comes with two options a 42kWh pack and a larger 49kWh pack, both using Nickel Manganese Cobalt.

  • The bigger pack delivers around 370 km range
  • Fast charging from 10 % to 80 % takes about 30 minutes
  • Similar numbers are expected from the Syros EV

With these figures, the Syros EV will be positioned against rivals like the Tata Punch EV and Windsor EV. Higher trims could also go up against the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400 EV and the soon to launch Maruti Fronx EV

Launch And Expected Pricing

Kia is expected to launch the Syros EV in India sometime in 2025. The price could start at around Rs 14 lakh for the base variant and go up to Rs 20 lakh for the top trim. For comparison the Kia Carens Clavis EV is priced between Rs 17.99 lakh and Rs 24.49 lakh
