The best selling cars in India for September 2025 clearly show how the market has shifted toward SUVs. Tata Nexon led the list with 22,573 units marking the highest ever monthly sales for any Tata model. This strong performance also helped Tata Motors achieve a record month overall
Tata Punch joined Nexon in the top five making it the first time in years that two Tata models appeared together among India’s five best sellers. The demand for compact and sub 4m SUVs continues to grow as more buyers look for higher ground clearance, space and safety features
GST Changes and Festive Demand Boost
The recent reduction in GST rates played a big role in driving car sales in September 2025. Even though hatchbacks benefited most from the tax cut customer interest moved toward SUVs and crossover vehicles
As per dealer level data many carmakers reported that bookings nearly doubled after the GST changes. Buyers chose to make purchases earlier than planned to take advantage of the reduced prices. With the festive season around the corner this trend is expected to continue through October
