Mercedes Vision Iconic Concept Unveils Futuristic S-Class Design

Mercedes Benz has unveiled the 2025 Vision Iconic concept a striking new coupe that showcases the brand’s most advanced technologies. With its bold Art Deco inspired design this concept car gives a glimpse of the next generation S Class scheduled for a global debut in 2028. According to Autocar UK the two door Vision Iconic also hints at Mercedes bringing back both coupe and convertible models to its line up in the near future. The vehicle was revealed at Mercedes’ design house in Shanghai China highlighting the brand’s commitment to combining innovation with heritage.

Heritage-Inspired Exterior Design of the Vision Iconic

The 2025 Vision Iconic draws design inspiration from several iconic Mercedes vehicles. Its long bonnet and swept back cabin echo the styling of coupes from the 1930s. Meanwhile the sloping rear roofline takes cues from the legendary 1954 300 SL. Slim LED tail lights a subtle Mercedes logo at the rear and a thin chrome strip under the bumper complete the elegant look

Illuminated Grille Inspired by Classic Models

One of the standout features of the Vision Iconic is its illuminated grille. The five slat design takes inspiration from historic Mercedes cars like the 1900 Mercedes 35 PS and the 1956 300Sc. While the GLC EV also features Mercedes’ illuminated grille the Vision Iconic places the three-pointed star above the nose instead of in the centre. This grille design combined with sharp pointed headlights gives the luxury coupe a modern yet classic character.

Side Profile and Wheels

The sides of the Vision Iconic feature large seven spoke aero optimised wheels fenders with curved vents and polished brass door handles. Chrome accents are used sparingly along the lower sides and around the windows maintaining a clean and elegant profile. These elements combined with the long, flowing lines of the car, highlight Mercedes’ focus on combining beauty with aerodynamic efficiency

Solar-Powered Nanoparticle Paint Technology

Mercedes is testing an innovative nanoparticle based paint for electric vehicles and the Vision Iconic serves as a showcase for this technology. This special paint is applied like a thin paste and can capture sunlight to generate power potentially adding up to 12,000km of driving range per year under ideal conditions. The coating is recyclable free from rare earth metals and can produce energy even when the car is switched off. This represents a step forward in sustainable and efficient electric vehicle design.

Interior Designed Like a Luxury Lounge

The Vision Iconic’s cabin is designed to feel more like a lounge than a traditional car interior. At the centre of the dashboard is a floating glass structure called the Zeppelin which combines analogue components with digital displays.

The front bench seat upholstered in deep blue velvet, allows both occupants to sit side by side comfortably. The four spoke steering wheel is a nod to classic Mercedes designs with the logo encased in a glass sphere. Adding to the luxury feel the cabin floor is covered in straw marquetry giving the interior a sophisticated and warm atmosphere.

Advanced Driving Assistance Features

The Vision Iconic is equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems capable of assisting with steering and acceleration in urban traffic. Mercedes plans to eventually upgrade this system to Level 4 where the car could drive autonomously allowing the driver to relax or even take a nap. Additionally the vehicle can park itself without human input showcasing the future potential of autonomous technology in luxury cars.

Steer by Wire and Rear-Axle Steering

The concept uses steer by wire technology which removes the mechanical link between the steering wheel and the front wheels. This allows quicker more precise control and makes manoeuvring easier while freeing up space inside the cabin. Combined with rear axle steering this setup makes the long car feel surprisingly agile enhancing both comfort and performance

Blending Heritage with Modern Technology

The 2025 Vision Iconic successfully merges Mercedes’ historic design language with futuristic technology.
