Toyota Innova Crysta To Be Discontinued Around March 2027 In India

AD

According to media reports, Toyota Innova Crysta will be discontinued in India around March 2027, marking the end of its nearly two-decade run as one of the country’s most iconic MPVs.

Known for reliability, comfort, and durability, it has dominated the segment for nearly 20 years. However, Despite the planned 2027 exit, the Innova Crysta is currently still on sale and remains a strong seller.

Why is the Innova Crysta being discontinued?

The primary reason for the exit is the upcoming, stricter Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) 3 norms, which are expected to come into effect in 2027. India’s CAFE Phase 3 norms are much stricter regarding CO2 emissions. Heavy, diesel-only vehicles like the ladder-frame Crysta struggle to meet these targets.

Strategic Shift

Toyota is shifting focus to the Innova Hycross (Hybrid) because strong hybrids earn “super credits” under CAFE rules, helping the company meet its overall fleet emission targets more easily.

Moreover, Toyota wants to consolidate the Innova name under a single, modern platform (TNGA-C) rather than maintaining the old IMV (ladder-frame) assembly line alongside it.

Notably, the automaker originally intended to stop production in 2025. However, due to massive demand from fleet operators and a global semiconductor shortage that slowed down Innova Hycross production, the company extended the Crysta’s life by two years.

Innova Legacy

Introduced as a successor to the original Innova, the Crysta became India’s go-to MPV for families, fleet operators, and long-distance travelers. The Innova Crysta serves multiple segments, from private families to high-ranking government officials, thanks to its durability and low maintenance costs.

Its body-on-frame (ladder-frame) chassis and 2.4L diesel engine are specifically favored for heavy-duty highway use and long-distance travel, where it remains a “king of the roads”.
