Volkswagen Taigun Sales Hit the 1 lakh Milestone in Three Years

Volkswagen has achieved a significant milestone by selling 100,000 units of the Taigun in the Indian and overseas markets within three years of launch.

According to SIAM data, 67,140 units were sold domestically by the end of August, while 32,742 units were exported, bringing the total to 99,882 units. With the addition of the initial September dispatches, the carmaker has officially surpassed the 1 lakh-unit mark.

The Volkswagen Taigun is the company’s first product offering in the midsize SUV class, built on the globally acclaimed MQB A0 IN platform as part of the strategic India 2.0 project, with up to 95 percent localization at launch.

The export sales of the VW Taigun have shown a remarkable upward trend over the years. In the financial year 2022 (FY22), the Taigun saw 2,851 units sold internationally. This number increased significantly in FY23, with exports reaching 7,958 units, indicating a growing demand for the vehicle. The following year, ending in March 2024, marked a new milestone for Taigun, as it achieved its highest export sales ever at 12,621 units.

The VW Taigun is equipped with a 1-liter turbo-petrol engine that delivers 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque.

This engine comes with two transmission options: a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. There’s also a more powerful 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine available, producing 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque. This engine offers a choice between a 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed DCT.

On the features front, the Taigun has an 8-inch digital driver’s display, a single-pane sunroof, power-adjustable front seats, cruise control, and illuminated footwells. The top-of-the-line Taigun variants also boast a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The VW Taigun rivals with the Hyundai Creta, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Tata Curvv, Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, Citroen C3 Aircross, and MG Astor.
