Soft-Top Revolution: Lighter and More Characterful
One of the most significant changes in this generation is the departure from the previous folding metal hard-top. In its place sits a sophisticated fabric soft-top—a shift that makes the car lighter and more in tune with the traditional convertible ethos.
This electric roof is built for convenience, capable of raising or lowering in just 18 seconds. Even better, you don’t have to stop to use it; the mechanism operates seamlessly at driving speeds of up to 50 km/h.
Design: Bold Identity Meets Sporty Stance
Aesthetically, the M440i carries the familiar 4 Series identity with confidence. The front is dominated by the bold, vertically oriented BMW kidney grille, flanked by sleek LED headlamps with “snake eyes” DRLs. Sculpted body panels and aggressive bumpers give the car a purposeful, low-slung stance.
The BMW M440i rides on 19-inch M alloy wheels in a staggered setup (wider at the rear), emphasizing its rear-biased performance. At the back, wraparound LED taillights with intricate 3D detailing are paired with dual exhaust outlets, making a clear statement about this car’s high-speed intentions.
Interior: A Tech-Forward Sanctuary
Inside, the four-seat cabin is designed around a driver-centric, dual-screen layout that feels appropriately premium. This setup features:
- 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system running the latest iDrive 8.5.
- 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver.
- M Sport features: A leather-wrapped, flat-bottom steering wheel, “M-themed” seatbelts, and premium leather upholstery.
Interior customization
Interior customization can be specified with Sensatec upholstery in colors such as Black, Tacora Red, and Cognac.
Safety Features
Safety features include six airbags, dynamic stability control, traction control and parking assistant with a 360-degree camera and reversing assistant.
Competitors
The BMW M440i will compete with convertible Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet and BMW Z4.
