BYD India has touched a major milestone by handing over more than 10,000 electric passenger vehicles across the country. This shows the fast-growing interest of Indian car buyers in premium electric vehicles and the steady expansion of the company’s local operations.
The company currently offers four electric models for Indian customers:
These models cater to different segments giving buyers choices based on budget and lifestyle.
BYD now operates 44 dealerships across India. These outlets not only handle sales but also provide after sales support and service. The company has also built a wide support network that includes nationwide roadside assistance and extended warranty packages, making ownership easier for customers. According to the brand referrals from existing buyers have been a big factor in achieving this sales mark. Many customers have recommended the vehicles to their friends and families showing strong confidence and satisfaction.
The company’s next product for India is expected to be the Atto 2, an entry-level electric SUV. This model has already been spotted testing on Indian roads. Once launched, it could make EV ownership more affordable and expand the customer base further.
BYD entered India in 2007 and today operates two plants covering an area of about 1.4 lakh square meters. Investments in the country have already crossed USD 200 million. This local presence supports production, service and growth of the electric ecosystem in India.
The brand has partnered with Relux Electric to ensure its customers have access to reliable charging points. With charging being one of the biggest concerns for EV buyers this tie up is expected to give more confidence to owners while travelling long distances.
Globally, BYD is recognized as one of the largest makers of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs). By July 2025 the company had sold more than 13 million NEVs worldwide. These sales according to the company, have helped reduce carbon emissions by over 106 billion kilograms, a number said to equal the work of around 1.77 billion trees.
In 2024 alone, BYD recorded sales of more than 4.27 million NEVs, registering a 41 percent growth compared to the previous year. The brand has also been listed for three years in a row among the Top 10 Most Valuable Global Automotive Brands by Kantar BrandZ, with a valuation of USD 14.4 billion.
The company has also unveiled what it calls the world’s first all-terrain test track in Zhengzhou, China. The facility includes asphalt roads, off-road trails, wet handling tracks, and even simulated snow and ice zones to test vehicles in different conditions.
On reaching the 10,000-car milestone in India, Rajeev Chauhan, Head of Electric Passenger Vehicles Business at BYD India, said:
“Crossing 10,000 customers in India is a proud moment. It shows the trust and excitement people have for cleaner mobility. Every car delivered reduces emissions, supports EV technology, and builds a sustainable ecosystem. The role of referrals from happy customers has been very important, and we will continue to deliver advanced products and reliable service for Indian buyers.”
