Global NCAP Crash Test: Discontinued Maruti Ciaz Scores Just 1-Star in Safety Rating
- Maruti Suzuki Ciaz receives 1 star adult safety rating in Global NCAP crash test
- Child occupant protection scores 3 stars despite discontinuation in India
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has recently been tested by Global NCAP, even after the sedan has been discontinued in India. The results reveal a 1 star rating for Adult Occupant Protection and a 3 star rating for Child Occupant Protection. This crash test assessment applies to the Indian market and provides important safety insights for current owners and second hand buyers

The tested Ciaz model weighs 1,260 kg and was evaluated in 2025. The car scored 20.86 out of 34 points for adult occupant safety and 28.57 out of 49 points for child safety reflecting its protective capability in simulated crash scenarios. The sedan is built in India and these results are valid for vehicles sold in the domestic market
Adult Occupant Protection: Key Findings
In the frontal offset deformable barrier test the head and neck protection for both driver and front passenger was rated as good. However the driver’s chest received a marginal rating, while the passenger’s chest protection was adequate. Knee protection for the driver was marginal due to potential contact with hard structures behind the dashboard whereas the passenger’s knees were better protected
A significant issue highlighted by Global NCAP was the unstable bodyshell and footwell area indicating that the car’s structure may not hold up under more severe impacts. This instability played a major role in limiting the Ciaz to a 1 star rating for adult occupants
In the side impact test head and pelvis protection were rated good, abdomen protection was adequate, and chest protection was weak. The side pole impact test was not performed because the car does not offer side head protection, even as an optional feature

Safety Features in Maruti Ciaz
The Ciaz comes equipped with Electronic Stability Control as standard which meets Global NCAP performance requirements. Seatbelt reminders for front occupants are also included. However the absence of side and curtain airbags and advanced safety assist technologies limited the overall adult safety score
Child Occupant Protection: Performance Overview
Child safety performance was relatively better, earning the sedan a 3 star rating. In the frontal impact test both the 18-month-old and 3 year-old child dummies in rear facing ISOFIX seats were fully protected, with no head contact observed. Side impact protection for children was also rated good
Despite this some limitations affected the child safety score: absence of ISOFIX mounts on the front passenger seat, lack of a passenger airbag cut off switch and failure of child restraint installation in the rear centre seat

Relevance for Owners and Second-Hand Buyers
Although Maruti Ciaz is no longer sold in showrooms many units continue to be used on Indian roads. Its strong past sales mean the sedan remains popular in the used car market. Therefore understanding its crash test performance is crucial for safety conscious owners and buyers of pre-owned models
