Kia India has officially introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) finance program for its first locally manufactured electric vehicle, the Carens Clavis EV
.

This innovative BaaS scheme allows customers to separate the battery cost from the vehicle’s chassis, paying for the battery pack purely based on actual usage.

Under this dual-financing setup, buyers will fund the vehicle body using a conventional car loan, while the battery is provided on a subscription or rental basis. Kia has set this pay-as-you-go battery usage fee at ₹3.3 per kilometer, which remains identical for both available battery pack variants.

For long-term flexibility, the battery rental agreement can extend for a tenure of up to 96 months, whereas the core vehicle loan tenure is capped at a maximum of 60 months.

The scheme utilizes a dual-loan structure where the chassis and the battery are financed through separate accounts.

Extended Range (51.4 kWh)₹21.99 Lakh₹15.94 Lakh₹3.3 / km

Kia introduced this rental scheme to make buying an electric car much easier on your pocket. Instead of paying a huge amount for the whole car at once, you split the cost. You get a regular car loan just for the main body (the chassis), and you pay for the battery separately through a monthly subscription based on how much you drive.

Battery Pack & Range

The Carens Clavis EV comes with two battery choices. The smaller 42 kWh battery gives you a driving range of 404 km on a full charge and puts out 132 bhp of power. If you need more, the bigger 51.4 kWh battery goes up to 490 km and bumps the power to 169 bhp. Even though the power is different, both versions give you the exact same pulling force of 255 Nm of torque.

Outside of the new battery rental plan, the Kia Carens Clavis EV stays the same. It was already updated earlier in 2026 with fresh designs for the bumpers, new alloy wheels, and more variant choices.

The Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model is becoming popular in India because it makes electric cars cheaper to buy upfront. By paying for the battery separately, owners don’t have to worry about high initial costs or battery life. While this makes starting prices lower, your total spending will depend on how many kilometers you drive each month.

Verdict

The introduction of BaaS for the Carens Clavis EV is a calculated move to democratize electric MPVs in India. By slashing the initial sticker price, Kia is directly targeting buyers who were previously deterred by the “EV premium.” While the long-term value depends on monthly mileage, the lower barrier to entry, combined with the 2026 cosmetic and variant updates, makes the Clavis EV one of the most versatile and financially flexible options in the current market.
