The Kia Syros EV has been spotted while charging, giving a fresh look at the brand’s upcoming electric SUV. The model is being developed to help boost sales for the Syros nameplate, which has struggled in India’s crowded sub 4m SUV category

Kia Syros EV – A Step Toward Revival

The standard Syros although well equipped, hasn’t performed well in sales. Competing with strong rivals such as Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV3XO, Skoda Kylaq, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and Hyundai Venue, the SUV’s numbers fell below 500 units in September 2025

To regain momentum, Kia is now developing the Kia Syros EV, an electric version based on the same platform as the internal combustion engine (ICE) Syros. The move mirrors Kia’s approach with the Carens Clavis and its upcoming Carens Clavis EV

The electric version of Syros has been seen testing several times both in India and overseas. The latest spy shots, believed to have been taken in South Korea show the car connected to a charging station while wearing heavy camouflage

Even though the SUV is fully covered some of its distinct design features give away its identity. The Kia Syros EV has familiar alloy wheels and unique B and C pillar designs similar to the regular Syros. Interestingly the prototype seems to be using the same wheels as the petrol version though this could change once production begins

Another noticeable change is the charging port placement. While the Carens Clavis EV has its charging port at the front center an ideal position for convenience, the Syros EV’s port sits on the left front quarter panel. This location might require careful parking alignment during charging but gives a cleaner look to the front fascia

What The Spy Shots Reveal

From the spy images, it’s clear that the Kia Syros EV will retain much of the original SUV’s styling, possibly with some subtle tweaks. The overall body shape and dimensions appear identical, which suggests this will be a “derived EV” rather than a ground-up electric platform

  • Design elements- Camouflaged body but identifiable shape and structure
  • Charging port- Positioned on the left front side
  • Alloy wheels- Similar to ICE version, may change for production
  • Testing region- Likely South Korea, based on number plate style

The heavy camouflage hints that the vehicle is still under early testing, with final design details yet to be revealed

Kia Syros EV Expected Features And Cabin Details

When launched, the Kia Syros EV is expected to offer a few extra features compared to the current Syros. The electric variant could pack premium additions such as-

  • Fog lights and rain-sensing wipers for better driving convenience
  • Cooled glovebox and rear ventilated seats to enhance comfort
  • Panoramic sunroof and 360 degree camera for a premium experience
  • Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) for improved safety
  • Dashcam and digital instrumentation for a tech-forward interior

The EV will retain the existing 30-inch “Trinity” display setup, a combination of dual 12.3-inch screens and a 5-inch panel for controls. This screen layout is one of the most advanced in its class, giving the SUV a high-tech dashboard similar to larger Kia models

Kia Syros EV Battery, Range And Powertrain Expectations

The Kia Syros EV is expected to come with a 40 kWh battery pack which should deliver around 400 km of range on a single charge. This range will make it suitable for both daily commutes and long drives

  • Battery- 40 kWh (expected)
  • Range- Approx. 400 km on full charge
  • Drivetrain- Single-motor setup
  • Brakes- All-four disc brakes, same as ICE version

The electric motor is likely to power the front wheels, focusing on smooth performance and efficiency. The EV could also get fast charging support, enabling shorter charging times

Kia Syros EV Launch Timeline And Pricing

The Kia Syros EV is expected to make its debut sometime in 2026. While no official confirmation has been made, industry reports suggest that testing is progressing steadily. Once ready the model will likely be produced in India possibly at Kia’s Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh

As for pricing, the Syros EV could be positioned above its petrol counterpart but below larger EVs in Kia’s lineup. This will help it attract buyers looking for an affordable, feature packed compact electric SUV

A New Chapter For Kia’s Compact SUV Line-Up

Kia’s move to bring an electric version of the Syros comes at a time when India’s electric vehicle segment is rapidly expanding. With the success of models like Tata Nexon EV and MG ZS EV the market is ready for more choices

By introducing the Kia Syros EV Kia aims to capture the attention of young, urban buyers who seek modern design, high tech interiors and eco friendly performance in a compact package. The EV’s combination of advanced features, good range and competitive pricing could help Kia strengthen its position in the growing electric SUV space
