Mahindra announced a major product rollout for calendar year 2026 with the launch of five new vehicles and the introduction of an all-new multi-powertrain platform scheduled for August 15, 2025. This change is significant for Mahindra in its journey as it launches itself into a diversified portfolio offering both traditional as well as electric options.
The company has said that in 2026 there will be three internal combustion engine (ICE), two battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Two of the five models will be mid-cycle facelifts, and the balance will be new-generation or electric vehicles, and that makes it one of the most awaited launches from Mahindra in India next year.
The electric vehicle segment will be well represented with the launch of the XEV 7e, which is the much awaited electric version of the popular XUV700 and the Thar.e, electric Thar SUV. The XEV 7e was previously seen during the rollout of Mahindra’s other EVs- the XEV 9e and BE.06, and being previewed in concept form this year (2023). These models highlight Mahindra’s bid for the emerging electric vehicle consumer market and place the company well in the Mahindra EV 2026 range.
New Platform Reveal on August 15, 2025
Mahindra has officially announced a new platform in 2025, which will be a flexible multi-powertrain platform for ICE and EV powertrains. This is the platform that will support future Mahindra car launches, oriented to SUVs and crossovers. The next-generation Bolero which is long past due for an update should be one of the first vehicles that will be based on this advanced platform.
The platform launch on the day of India’s Independence Day reflects the vision of the brand about the imagination of innovation and progress in India’s automotive world.
Chakan Plant Expansion to offset demand
To facilitate production of the models for the coming years and new platform, Mahindra is increasing its producing capacity in the Chakan plant by 1.2 lakh units. This considerable ramp-up to be done by 2027 will be able to guarantee that Mahindra has the capacity to achieve the growing demand at home and through exports.
Strategic Positioning in the Competitive World
The launch of the new product strategy and platform are announced in the face of increased competition in such markets as the SUV and EV in India. Some of the leading players like Tata Motors, Hyundai, and Maruti Suzuki are also doubling up their range, which is forcing Mahindra to speed up its shift to electrification without giving up on its ICE bastion.
This balanced approach that Mahindra is taking of launching ICE and EV models of vehicle is a key step as the company is looking to innovate and essay its presence in the changing environment of the automotive world.
