Maruti phases out the Ciaz due to its poor sales and increasing market demand for SUVs.

Maruti Suzuki India has confirmed that it has discontinued the Ciaz. Amid declining sales and a market shift toward SUVs, the automaker has phased out the mid-size sedan.

The total wholesales (dispatches to dealers) of the mid-size sedan market declined to 51,171 units in April to February 2024-25, a year-on-year (y-o-y) decline of 30 per cent as compared with 73,108 units in the same period in the previous fiscal year.

Notably, the Ciaz enjoyed early success, often leading its segment against the Honda City and Hyundai Verna but struggled in the market due to a lack of regular updates at a time when rival models like the Honda City, Volkswagen Virtus, Skoda Slavia and Hyundai Verna offered advanced tech and more features.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz’s competitors were periodically updated gaining modern features like electric sunroof, digital instrument clusters, and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

While, The Ciaz received its last major update in 2018. As a result, it lacks quite a few features and looks quite dated compared to its rivals.

Volkswagen now leads the segment with the Virtus, followed by Skoda and Hyundai with the Slavia and Verna.
