Maruti Suzuki India Limited has crossed cumulative domestic sales of 3 crore units, setting a new benchmark in India’s automotive sector. It becomes the first passenger vehicle manufacturer in India to reach this milestone.

According to Maruti Suzuki, it took the company 28 years and 2 months to sell its first 1 crore cars, followed by 7 years and 5 months to reach the next crore.

The latest 1 crore units were sold in a record 6 years and 4 months, marking the fastest growth phase in the company’s journey.

Harpal Singh and Gulshanbeer Kaur of Delhi became the first proud owners of the first Maruti 800 car in 1983. The couple bought the car for Rs 47, 500.

Maruti Suzuki’s journey began on 14 December 1983, when it delivered its first car, the iconic Maruti 800 marking the beginning of India’s automotive revolution. Today, the company offers over 170 variants across 19 models, spanning multiple powertrains and transmission options.

Among the 3 crore vehicles sold domestically, the Alto remains the flagship model with over 47 lakh units, solidifying its status as India’s preferred compact car. It is trailed by the Wagon R at around 34 lakh units and the Swift with over 32 lakh units sold.
