Mercedes-Benz India Recalls 149 Cars Over Critical ADAS Software Glitch
- The recall is focused on specific petrol variants of performance and luxury models manufactured between late 2024 and early 2025.
Mercedes-Benz India has announced a voluntary recall for 149 of its luxury vehicles because of a software issue affecting the Emergency Stop Assist (ESA) system.
The recall primarily addresses a glitch in the Emergency Stop Assist (ESA) functionality, a critical safety layer designed to protect drivers during medical emergencies or periods of unresponsiveness.
Affected Models
| Model | Production Period |
|---|---|
| Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet | Sept 2, 2024 – March 25, 2025 |
| Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe | Dec 12, 2024 – March 18, 2025 |
| Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance | Oct 23, 2024 – Nov 23, 2024 |
Reason for the Recall
The main issue at hand is the Emergency Stop Assist (ESA) feature. Normally, this system is designed to sense when a driver is unresponsive – like in the case of a medical emergency – and it will slowly bring the car to a safe stop while also making an emergency call. However, there’s a glitch that might stop the system from recognizing when the driver is inactive, which could leave the vehicle rolling along without any automatic help.
What Owners Should Do ?
Check Your VIN
To find out if your car is among the 149 units affected, head over to the official Mercedes-Benz India website or get in touch with your local dealership using your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
Wait for Notification
Mercedes-Benz India is in the process of contacting owners of the impacted CLE Cabriolet, CLE 53 AMG Coupe, and C 63 S E Performance models.
Schedule a Visit
Since this issue is related to a software-based safety system glitch, you’ll need to have the update done at an authorized Mercedes-Benz service center.
