MG Windsor EV: India’s top electric vehicle for the last 7 months

- The MG Windsor EV has made history in India, becoming the best-selling electric vehicle for the past seven months – in front of such industry behemoths as Tata and Mahindra. The electric MPV began sales in September 2024, and it has recorded more than 20,000 units sold since its official market launch, which was in October 2024.

JSW MG (parent company to MG Motor India) announced this milestone on 1st May 2025 stating that the Windsor EV still remains top dog in the electric vehicle (EV) segment, recording stellar sales numbers even on a monthly basis.
Ever since its introduction onto the market, the Windsor EV has appealed to a broad selection of customers due to the competitive price, available space, and the reliability of its performance. In the month of April 2025, MG recorded an increase in sales from previous year by 23.36% with 5,829 units sold in April 2025. This is an indication of the increase in the demand for electrical vehicles in India due to the increase in environmental awareness and government incentives.
Expansion in the EV Market
The impact of Windsor EV in the competitive market has been significant only because of its value proposition. In spite of the stiff competition from the top names such as Tata and Mahindra, the Windsor EV has been leading in sales from the charts, a fact that represents the broad acceptability of the vehicle.
The sustained success of MG Motor India in the EV segment owes to the all-round appeal of its iconic, the Windsor EV that combines a pocket-friendly tag and an approachable range with an appeal of a family car. The car has three variants namely: Excite (₹13.99 lakh), Exclusive (₹14.99 lakh), and Essence (₹15.99 lakh). MG also provides a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model that enables the customers to pay lower upfront cost of the vehicle as they pay to rent the battery at ₹3.9 per kilometer.
Impressive Range and Performance
Powering the Windsor EV is a 38kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that is capable of delivering a certification of an ARAI with a 332 km farthest reach, of which 175 km is driven at 12°C. Add to this 136PS motor and 200 Nm of torque seemingly, and it is equally good for urban commute and long drives.
The standard four-mode driving of the vehicle, from Eco+, Eco, Normal and Sport, provides even more performance by giving the driver an option to adjust the driving style from being fuel efficient to simply powerful.

In addition to its performance, the Windsor EV is commended for its roomy cabin as it is the perfect option for the families, the urban professionals, and even the taxi fleets. Its design emphasizes on comfort without sacrificing functionality, thus a viable option for use on a day-to-day basis.

With Windsor EV being in high demand, MG Motor India would like to keep the pace. The company is on the verge of launching a more robust battery version this month, which will provide it with a greater driving range and will contribute to the vehicle’s popularity in such a rapidly developing market.
