The Windsor EV with 50kWh battery pack will be nearly Rs 1 lakh – Rs 1.50 lakh more expensive than the current version.
JSW MG Motor India will introduce the Windsor EV with a bigger 55kWh battery pack in the second week of May 2025.
MG Windsor comes with new Iconic Design and features. Its growing popularity can be linked to several factors, including its unique design as well as minimalist and spacious interiors. MG is going a step further by launching a long-range variant of the car with a larger 50 kWh battery pack.
The Windsor EV currently features a 38 kWh battery, which provides it with a driving range of about 331 km when fully charged. That is sufficient for city driving and short distances.
Notably, with the new 50 kWh battery pack, the Windsor EV will have a range of up to 461 km. This is based on the ICAT (Indian Cycle of Automotive Testing) standards.
The Windsor EV is underpinned by MG’s new-age Pure Electric platform. This is so designed as to support several battery sizes and body styles. Thus, fitting the larger unit in would not be much of an issue.
Moreover, the new battery pack has already been utilized in MG’s international EV line-up, including the ZS EV. In the International markets, the Windsor EV is available as the Wuling Cloud EV, with the same specifications.
Competitors
The move is expected to make the Windsor EV more competitive in the market. The Windsor EV’s rivals – the Nexon EV, Curvv EV and the Creta EV – all offer variants equipped with a larger battery pack, offering a range of 473km (Creta EV) to 585km (Curvv EV).
Expected Price
The MG Windsor EV is priced at Rs. 13.50 lakh and goes up to Rs. 15.50 lakh (ex-showroom) depending on the variant.
With the new 50 kWh battery pack, the price of the Windsor EV will increase by about Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 1.5 lakh. While the price will be much higher, the larger battery and higher range should attract more customers.
MG also offers a Battery As A Subscription (BaaS) model of ownership on the Windsor and the same is likely to continue on the 50 kWh version.
