Porsche India has issued a recall for 11 units of the 911, 718 Cayman GT4 RS, 718 Boxster Spyder RS, and Panamera manufactured between 1 September 2023 and 23 October 2023. Moreover, 11 units are said to be affected in India.
The technical fault specifically affects Porsche models equipped with center-lock wheels, which use a single bolt to attach the wheel to the axle rather than the standard five-bolt system found on most vehicles.
Porsche offers center-lock wheels on some of its high-end sports cars. This motorsport-derived design has several advantages over regular multi-lug wheels. According to Porsche, the center lock wheels have a lower rotating mass. However, a special tool is required to remove and install the wheels.
Porsche said it first became aware of several incidents related to the issue in September and that it is still determining the cause. The remedy involves a dealer checking the center lock wheel bolt and replacing any out-of-spec parts, if necessary.
