Second Safety Recall Hits Skoda-Volkswagen Models Over Faulty Seatbelt Components
Skoda and Volkswagen India have issued their second major vehicle recall of 2025, raising concerns over safety issues related to seatbelts in several models produced under their ‘India 2.0’ strategy

What’s the Reason Behind the Recall?

Following a previous recall in April 2025, the Volkswagen Group India has once again flagged a critical safety issue affecting vehicles manufactured between December 2021 and May 2025.

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), two major seatbelt-related defects have been identified:

  1. Cracks in the metal base frame of the rear seatbelt, which may compromise its strength and reliability.

  2. Incorrect seatbelt components fitted in some vehicles, both at the front and rear, potentially affecting safety performance during collisions.

These faults came to light during the company’s regular quality check and internal assessments, leading to immediate action.

Which Models Are Affected?

The recall applies to India-made models under Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 Strategy, including:

  • Skoda Kushaq
  • Skoda Slavia
  • Skoda Kylaq
  • Volkswagen Virtus
  • Volkswagen Taigun

This safety action follows a similar recall in May 2025, when the group had already pulled back 47,235 units due to comparable seatbelt issues.

What Will the Company Do for Affected Customers?

If your vehicle is part of this recall:

  • Dealerships will contact you directly.
  • Seatbelt inspection and replacement will be provided free of charge.
  • You can also verify your vehicle’s recall status by visiting the official Skoda or Volkswagen India website and entering your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number).

This is a precautionary step to ensure the highest level of passenger safety is maintained, especially for those seated in the rear, which is directly impacted by this fault.

Why Is This Recall Important?

Seatbelts are a primary safety feature, and any compromise can:

  • Increase the risk of injury in case of an accident.
  • Affect the overall crash performance of the vehicle.
  • Violate global and Indian vehicle safety compliance norms.

The company has acknowledged these concerns and aims to restore customer trust by proactively addressing the defect.

What Should You Do Next?

If you own any of the listed models manufactured between December 2021 and May 2025, here’s what you should do:

  1. Check your car’s VIN on the brand’s official recall page.
  2. Wait for dealer communication or contact your nearby dealership.
  3. Schedule a service visit to inspect and replace faulty seatbelt components.
