Škoda Auto India announces the name of a new compact SUV, the first of its kind named through the imaginative national ‘Name Your Škoda’ campaign. Reflecting the choice of thousands of people, the new SUV will be called the Kylaq, embodying a unique connection with its future drivers.
Škoda Kylaq will be the company’s first implementation of the Modern Solid design language in India. It also features a hexagon pattern on the side and rear of the car and adds details like refined and precise DRL light signatures. The Kylaq has a high ground clearance and space around the wheel for tackling uneven road surfaces, lending the car that SUV character.
Škoda Kylaq, the ‘SUV for you’, was specifically developed for India by teams in India and the Czech Republic with an eye on versatility, safety, and dynamics while focusing on localization, low maintenance costs, and a hassle-free ownership experience. Based on a larger car platform, the compact SUV will have the ‘big car’ feel within the 4-meter footprint.
The Kylaq is expected to be powered by Skoda’s 1-liter TSI turbo-petrol engine, paired with six-speed manual and torque converter automatic transmissions. The power output of this motor could be rated at 114 bhp and 178 Nm.
Upon launch, the Škoda Kylaq will compete against the likes of the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra 3XO, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and the Tata Nexon.
