India’s leading carmakers Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra are ready with a series of new launches in the coming months. The next two to three months will see many important models including new petrol engines, updated features and electric options. These launches are timed around the festive season when demand usually rises
According to the launch schedule the Mahindra Thar facelift will reach showrooms in September 2025. Following that the Tata Punch facelift and the Punch EV facelift are expected in October. By November, Tata Motors plans to introduce petrol-powered versions of the Harrier and Safari along with the all new Tata Sierra EV.
The Tata Punch facelift and the updated Punch EV will get minor styling changes along with better features. The petrol Punch could adopt some elements from the electric version such as a fully digital instrument cluster new two spoke steering wheel a touch based climate control panel and a larger 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment unit.
Under the hood, the ICE Punch will continue with the 1.2L, 3 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 86 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. Buyers will also get the option of factory-fitted CNG.
For the Punch EV facelift, reports suggest that it might use the Nexon EV’s larger 45 kWh battery pack, which offers an ARAI-rated range of 489 km. This will improve its driving distance on a single charge and give buyers more confidence in daily use.
The Tata Sierra will make a comeback as a modern electric SUV. Unlike its old version, the new Sierra will have a premium design, advanced features, and a choice of large battery packs. Media sources suggest that it may borrow 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs from the Harrier EV. The expected range is over 500 km per charge, making it one of Tata’s long-range EVs.
The petrol-powered Sierra will only arrive later, in the first half of 2026. For now, the focus is on the electric version.
Tata Motors is finally bringing petrol versions of its popular SUVs, Harrier and Safari. Both will use a new 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine with direct injection technology. The motor produces 170 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque. It follows the latest BS6 Phase II rules and is also compatible with E20 ethanol-blended fuel. Buyers can choose between manual and automatic gearboxes.
This new petrol option is expected to attract city buyers who prefer smoother engines and lower maintenance costs compared to diesel.
The Mahindra Thar, one of India’s most popular lifestyle SUVs, will get its first big update in September 2025. The new model will take design cues from the recently unveiled Thar Roxx. It will come with a redesigned grille featuring stacked slats, new headlamps, a refreshed bumper, alloy wheels, and updated taillamps. The rear bumper will also get changes.
Inside, the facelifted Thar will bring several upgrades such as a bigger infotainment screen, new steering wheel, wireless charging pad, 360-degree camera, and ADAS safety technology. Mechanically, the 3-door version will continue with the same petrol and diesel engine options already on sale.
