After six years, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV), a part of Tata Motors, has made a comeback in the South African passenger car market. The brand is entering the market again with a range of new cars and SUVs designed to suit local buyers. Tata has joined hands with Motus Holdings, one of South Africa’s leading automotive groups, to take care of sales, distribution, and aftersales.
This step is a big part of Tata’s global expansion strategy. By offering a mix of advanced design, safety features and customer focused service, the company is aiming to grow strongly in the region. All models will be covered by a 5 year or 125,000 km warranty whichever comes first.
In recent years, Tata has seen rapid progress in India. Sales rose from 170,000 units in 2020 to over 560,000 units in 2025 – a growth of around 350 percent. The brand is also recognized for its focus on safety. Most models have scored 4-star or 5-star ratings in crash tests conducted by Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP, which gives the company a strong base for international markets.
At the launch Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility said the comeback in South Africa marks an important step in the brand’s global journey. He added that the company aims to offer vehicles with modern design, latest technology, and high safety standards. With Motus as its partner, Tata is confident of delivering a strong ownership experience to South African buyers.
Ockert Janse Van Rensburg, Group CEO of Motus Holdings, also shared his views. He said that this partnership combines Tata’s engineering strength with Motus’s wide retail and aftersales network. With 40 dealerships at the start and plans to expand to 60 by 2026, the partnership will give customers a strong support system.
