The Tata Sierra SUV is all set to return to the Indian car market in a brand new avatar. The company will first launch the electric version of the SUV around October 2025 followed by the internal combustion engine models in early 2026. With this launch Tata Motors is stepping back into the midsize SUV space a segment already crowded with strong players like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Toyota Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun and Honda Elevate.
The Sierra has always been a special name for Indian buyers because of its unique styling in the 1990s. The upcoming model will carry forward that identity but with modern design, electric power, and new age technology.
Here are five major things you should know about the 2025 Tata Sierra SUV
One of the key highlights of the new Sierra is its triple screen arrangement inside the cabin. Spy shots have shown a large free-standing screen in the middle for infotainment, a digital instrument cluster for the driver, and another display for the co-passenger. This is a premium setup rarely seen in midsize SUVs.
Other important features likely to be offered include
Many of these features are expected to be shared with the upcoming Harrier EV ensuring that the Sierra offers one of the most advanced cabins in its class
Like other Tata SUVs the new Sierra will be high on safety. The SUV is expected to come with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. This means features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and forward collision warning could be included.
In addition the SUV will also offer:
These features will give drivers more confidence and make the Sierra one of the safest SUVs in its price range.
Another interesting detail is the possibility of a lounge-style seating layout. The concept version of the Sierra showcased a wide, L shaped rear seat resembling a sofa. Along with this features like foldable tray tables, armrests, entertainment screens for rear passengers and multiple charging points were displayed.
Though this unique layout has not yet been spotted on test vehicles Tata may still bring this special version for buyers who prefer luxury and comfort over traditional seating.
The electric and petrol/diesel versions of the Sierra will be based on different platforms.
This move allows Tata to design each model with its specific power needs in mind, rather than trying to fit all into a single structure.
Tata is planning to give the Sierra a wide range of engine and motor options to appeal to all types of buyers.
This broad strategy means the Sierra will cater to both traditional car buyers and those ready to shift to electric mobility.
