Tesla India Sales Dropped By 37.5 %, Momentum Slowed with 40 Model Y SUV’s Sold Amid Growing Electric Vehicle Market

American EV maker Tesla delivered only 40 Model Y units in October, down from 64 in September, even as India’s overall EV market continued to grow.
This significant decline suggests potential challenges for Tesla in the Indian electric vehicle market, possibly due to increased competition and shifting consumer preferences.
Even as India became the world’s third-largest auto market by volume, it remains one of the most complex ones to crack and compete. Global giants like Ford and GM exited after pouring in billions. Because India is, above all, a value-conscious market.

Despite the decline in sales, the overall electric vehicle market in India is experiencing growth. According to data from the (FADA), total retail sales in October 2025 has reached 18,055 units, which signifies a 17.78% increase from the previous month’s sales of 15,329 units.

- Worldmark 3, Aerocity, New Delhi
Charging Infrastructure
Tesla has also kickstarted its charging infrastructure. Its first Supercharging station was unveiled on August 4 at One BKC, Mumbai, featuring four V4 Superchargers (250kW DC) priced at Rs 24/kWh, alongside four 11kW AC Destination Chargers at Rs 14/kWh. A similar facility is operational at the Delhi showroom.

Tesla Model Y Warranty Details
