Toyota Urban Cruiser EV unveiled

Toyota has unveiled the production-spec Urban Cruiser EV, which will make its public debut at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show in January.

The production-spec Urban Cruiser EV carries over much from the concept; the electric SUV is slightly smaller and, other than its design, shares a lot with the recently revealed Suzuki e-Vitara, which will come in our country with a Maruti badge. The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is based on the Toyota Urban SUV concept, which was showcased last year and was itself based on the Suzuki eVX concept.

Production for this model will happen in Suzuki’s Gujarat plant in India and will be exported to many global markets. We expect Toyota to showcase the Urban Cruiser EV at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Expo 2025.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV : Design

The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV has a sleek front, which the carmaker calls ‘hammerhead.’ There are LED headlamps with LED DRLs and LED taillamps. The front bumper now features a less angular design, and the sides are accentuated by black plastic cladding, lending it a rugged SUV aesthetic.

Coming to the sides, most details of the two-box e-SUV have been retained from the concept, with black plastic cladding giving it the requisite SUV cues. Toyota will offer the Urban Cruiser EV with 18-inch or 19-inch aero-optimised wheels.

At the rear, we get connected tail lights, but the actual lighting elements are not connected. The Entire rear bumper is left unpainted. There’s a roof spoiler, a shark-fin antenna, and more design elements.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV : Dimensions

The electric SUV measures 4,285 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,640 mm in height. The wheelbase is 2,700 mm long. The turning radius is claimed to be 5.2 meters.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV : Interior and Features

On the inside, the cabin of the Urban Cruiser EV is identical to the e Vitara, from the dashboard layout and two-spoke steering wheel to the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen. Moreover, Toyota has also confirmed that the EV’s rear seats will come with a sliding and reclining function, along with a 40:20:40 split-folding function.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV : Powertrain

The Urban Cruiser EV will be available in two battery options – 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The smaller battery version will get 144 hp power and 189 Nm torque, while the bigger battery has 174 hp power.

Additionally, the 61kWh battery will get an all-wheel drive option, which will have 184hp and 300Nm torque. Also, hill-descent control and trail mode for off-road are provided.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV : Safety

The Safety kit on the Urban Cruiser EV will come in the form of a 360-degree camera and an ADAS suite that includes a pre-collision system, adaptive cruise control, a lane departure alert, and lane keep assist. Like the Maruti on which it is based, six airbags are expected to be standard.
