This new tax on luxury EVs marks a departure from the state&#8217;s previous stance of encouraging EV adoption through incentives.<\/p><p>This move is expected to bring in \u20b9170 crore in additional annual revenue.<\/p><p>Finance Minister Ajit Pawar stated, \u201cIt is true that in this budget, we imposed and increased the taxes on vehicle purchases, but we have ensured that these taxes are not for the poor people. The people who buy high-end vehicles and can afford the taxes are the ones who need to pay.\u201d<\/p><p>While the rationale behind the tax is revenue generation, it may also impact the demand for premium EVs.<\/p><p>The electric vehicle penetration in the passenger <a href=\"https:\/\/caronphone.com\">car segment<\/a> in India is upto 2.5 per cent. Experts have stated while the electric vehicle prices will increase, the battery prices are set to reduce with the exemption of duties announced in the budget.<\/p><p>The mass-market category like <a href=\"https:\/\/caronphone.com\/tata-cars\">Tata<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/caronphone.com\/mahindra-cars\">Mahindra<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/caronphone.com\/morris-garages-cars\">MG<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/caronphone.com\/hyundai-cars\">Hyundai<\/a>, and a few <a href=\"https:\/\/caronphone.com\/byd-cars\">BYDs<\/a> will Remain Unaffected bybthe move. While, Premium EV makers like <a href=\"https:\/\/caronphone.com\/mercedes-benz-cars\">Mercedes-Benz<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/caronphone.com\/bmw-cars\">BMW<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/caronphone.com\/byd-cars\">BYD<\/a> and even the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/caronphone.com\/tesla-cars\">Tesla<\/a> could feel the heat from this move.
