The\u202fGoods and Services Tax<\/a> (GST)\u202fhas a significant role in the pricing of cars in India. The new reform called\u202fGST 2.0 is set to roll out on\u202fSeptember 22. This overhaul reduces tax rates on many cars and eliminates the additional compensation cess, leading to major price drops for buyers.<\/span><\/p>

Small cars\u202f(under 1200cc petrol and 1500cc diesel, length below 4 meters) will now attract just\u202f18% GST, down from 28%. This means a price reduction of about\u202f5-7% on popular hatchbacks and compact SUVs.<\/span><\/p>

Mid-size and larger SUVs\u202fwill face a\u202fflat 40% GST\u202fbut without any additional cess. This replaces the older combined tax rate of 45-50%.<\/span><\/p>

Electric vehicles<\/a>\u202fkeep a low GST of\u202f5%.<\/span><\/p>

Hybrids are split with small hybrids taxed at 18%, while larger and luxury hybrids move to the higher 40% slab.<\/span><\/p>
