Understanding global NCAP ratings

The Global NCAP is an independent organization that was established in 2011 in order to evaluate and advocate vehicle safety on a global scale.
The Global NCAP safety test is a front-offset crash test replicating a collision between two cars of equal weight at a speed of 50 kmph, The crash test crashes a car into a deformable barrier at 64 kmph. As the test is a front offset, only 40% of the car is crashed into the barrier.
The NCAP crash test uses dummies fitted with sensors, which compile data on the test. They follow the protocols given below to award a safety rating.
Moreover, the Global NCAP has tested frontal safety in crashes of passenger vehicles in India under the ‘Safer Cars for India’ project.
