Hyundai has handed over a single unit of the Nexo Hydrogen FCEV to Indian Oil for conducting real-world tests on Indian roads.
Hyundai Motor India and Indian Oil have teamed up to road-test hydrogen-powered cars in India. The two companies signed an agreement to begin a two-year trial using Hyundai’s NEXO car, which runs on hydrogen.
Through this partnership, Hyundai and Indian Oil aim to create a pathway for cleaner and more sustainable mobility in India.
The trial will span 40,000 kilometers and is designed to evaluate how hydrogen-powered vehicles perform in real-world Indian driving conditions. It will also include an analysis of long-term ownership costs.
A Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) assessment, including periodic maintenance, will also be conducted to provide critical insights into the long-term economic and environmental benefits of adopting hydrogen-powered vehicles for the Indian market.
Moreover, the company is also working in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) to establish a cutting-edge ‘Hydrogen Innovation Centre’. The facility is envisioned as a platform for startups and OEMs to test components and drive innovation in Green Hydrogen technology.
Notably, the Nexo made its debut at the Auto Expo 2020 and was showcased again at the Auto Expo 2023, highlighting Hyundai’s interest in introducing hydrogen-powered vehicles to the Indian market.
