Renault Kwid EV spied testing on Indian roads. Detailed theoretical and observational look at what this means for car buyers in India.

A fully camouflaged prototype of Renault’s highly anticipated Kwid EV has been spotted on Indian roads. This is the French carmaker’s first battery-electric venture in Bharat.

We’re seeing resemblances to the petrol-powered Kwid silhouette in the test mule. But this model has a noticeably higher ride due to increased ground clearance. The car’s wheel-arch gap is also accentuated as a result.

Spy shots have mainly captured only side and rear profiles so far, leaving the front-end design a mystery for the time being.

Renault Kwid EV: Launch Timeline & Pricing

We’re looking at a late-2025 launch timeline for the Kwid EV in India. This can even shift to early 2026.

Local component sourcing and assembly is probably being leveraged by Renault, because we’re looking at an interesting starting price marker of around Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Kwid EV.

If this is confirmed, and as soon as it debuts, Renault’s Kwid EV may easily become India’s most affordable electric hatchback.

Renault Kwid EV: Design & Features

Renault Kwid EV spied testing on Indian roads. Detailed theoretical and observational look at what this means for car buyers in India.

Our early glimpses hint that the Renault Kwid EV could be adopting stylistic cues from Europe’s Dacia Spring EV. This may include Y-shaped LED lighting and a full-width light bar on front fascia.

The squared wheel arches impart rugged touches. Much the same can be said of the thick cladding on the Kwid’s bumpers and doors. sporty alloy-flourish wheels give the car some additional crossover appeal.

There are no interior spy shots as of now, but we’re assuming Renault may integrate the Spring EV’s following features in its cabin:

  • 7-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto
  • USB ports

Renault Kwid EV: Safety & Connectivity

We’re predicting some great safety features for Renault Kwid EV. But for this to be possible, the French carmaker needs to meet modern Indian car safety standards.

The following safety addons count toward this:

  • Six airbags
  • ABS (anti-lock braking system)
  • ESC (electronic stability control)
  • TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system)
  • Emergency call function
  • ISOFIX child-seat mounts

Level-1 ADAS (advanced driver-assistance systems) may/should potentially be added to higher Kwid EV trims. The addons needed in this case include:

  • Traffic-sign recognition
  • Autonomous emergency brakes
  • Lane-keeping assist

Some of these features can be removed (in theory), purely for cost-effective purposes and based on select Indian roads.

Renault Kwid EV: Powertrain & Range

Considering the CMF-A platform is its base, the Kwid EV may supposedly replicate the Dacia Spring EV’s own electric drivetrain.

This includes:

  • A 26.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack
  • Two motor options: a 33 kW (44 PS) unit and a 48 kW (65 PS) unit. Both deliver 125 Nm of torque.

The WLTP-rated driving range for the Renault Kwid EV comes in at 225 km. There’s also a top speed of 125 km/h to bear in mind.

Charging times are anywhere from 11-13 hours on a domestic AC supply. It takes approximately 45 minutes for a 20-80% DC fast charge (up to 30 kW).

Renault Kwid EV: Market Competition & Impact

The Renault Kwid EV’s main competition will include established entry-level electric hatchbacks like:

  • Tata Tiago EV (from Rs 7.99 lakh)
  • MG Comet EV (from Rs 7.50 lakh)
  • Citroën eC3 (from Rs 11.99 lakh)

Localized EV rollout and an already proven nameplate could boost Renault’s positioning in the fast-growing budget EV segment.

We’re looking at wider electric adoption in urban India with the entry of this yet another newcomer, the Kwid EV.

Renault Kwid EV: Final Notes

An efficient electric powertrain, accessible pricing figures, and brand-centric Kwid packaging can elevate the Renault Kwid EV among buyers in India’s affordable EV landscape.

We’ll need to stay tuned until Renault officially unveils specs, variants, and booking details in the months ahead.
