Hardeep Singh Brar to Lead BMW India as CEO from September

The BMW India CEO change is set to shape the premium car maker’s future in India. Hardeep Singh Brar will step in as President and Chief Executive Officer on 1 September 2025.1 He succeeds Vikram Pawah, who moves to lead BMW Group’s Australia and New Zealand operations. This transition comes as BMW India eyes fresh momentum in sales, electric vehicles and digital engagement.

BMW India CEO Change: What’s Driving the Move?

BMW Group India has confirmed that longstanding leader Vikram Pawah will hand over the reins to Brar this September. Pawah stepped into BMW in 2017 and steered India through record growth. He helped ramp up electric mobility and enhance customer experience.

His move to Australia and New Zealand is part of a broader reshuffle. This falls under BMW leadership 2025 plans, which is to add talent to markets where they can make the strongest impact.

For BMW, India remains one of its fastest growing markets worldwide. The company sees this leadership swap as an opportunity to inject new energy and perspectives into a market projected to rank among its top three globally by volume by decade end.

Hardeep Singh Brar brings over three decades of experience across marquee automotive brands in India. He has led sales, marketing, and corporate strategy at Maruti Suzuki, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, General Motors, Nissan Motor, and Great Wall Motor Company. Most recently, Brar served as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Kia India.

He’s also a mechanical engineering graduate from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology. Brar is also an alumnus of Harvard Business School’s Senior Executive Leadership Program. His combination of technical know-how and market savvy may very well fuel BMW India plans for electrification and premium expansion.

BMW Leadership 2025: A Strategic Shift

Under BMW leadership 2025, the brand seems to be doubling down on digital retail innovations and electric vehicles. India’s growing demand for luxury EVs makes local leadership all the more important. Brar’s appointment in this regard aligns with BMW’s ambition to launch multiple i Series models in Bharat by 2027. They also aim to scale charging infrastructure in tandem.

Jean-Philippe Parain, Senior Vice President for Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa, stated India to be a “pillar of our long-term success strategy.”

Brar’s extensive familiarity with dealer networks and customer segmentation could serve as the key to executing BMW India’s tailored growth blueprint.

BMW India Plans Under the New CEO

Brar seems like he will be overseeing operations at BMW’s Gurugram headquarters, the Chennai assembly plant, Pune distribution center, and training center in Gurugram.

BMW India currently makes ten car models. This ranges across BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad, and comes supported nationwide by more than 80 brand touchpoints.

Key priorities for Brar may include elevating digital showrooms, enriching after-sales experiences, and of course scaling EV adoption through public-private partnerships.

With a competitive line-up that spans X Series SUVs to electric iX and i4, BMW India seems prepared to open its next chapter under Brar’s leadership.
