Nagaland Police adds India’s first ever Mahindra Thar Roxx SUV to its Fleet

The Nagaland Police has set a new record as the first law enforcement agency in India to use the Mahindra Thar Roxx for active patrol work. Using the AX7L version as a base, the new police car has been customized which improves the state’s patrol vehicles.

Engage 4×4 India recently posted a video on Instagram highlighting the special modifications on the Thar Roxx, designed for police use. The vehicle is finished in white paint, with blue stripes, as well as “POLICE” clearly painted on the side panels and blue flag poles on the front arches. Instead of posters, window visors and police stickers for the front and back windshields are part of the car setup.

Unlikely from its earlier 3-door cousin, the 5-door access to space is very beneficial for police work. As its foundation is a four-wheel-drive vehicle, the Thar Roxx is matched to Nagaland’s rough hills and distant areas.

Roughly 68% of cars bought by Indian police forces in 2024 were of the SUV variety, the BPRD noted. There is a rising trend toward updating police forces, as more state departments want vehicles that can meet today’s needs and work in rough areas.

Over the years, cars in the police fleet have included the Maruti Gypsy, Mahindra Bolero, Tata Sumo and Toyota Innova. Yet, by adding the Thar Roxx, up-to-date and safe platforms are now available.

According to the officials, using SUVs could increase in future, mostly in places that have tough geography. The choice matches efforts to give patrol officers the latest tools needed for increased mobility, safety and faster response. The Mahindra Thar Roxx is becoming the standard in police transport for the future of India.
