New Mercedes E-Class LWB India Production Begins Ahead of the October 9 Launch

Mercedes-Benz has officially commenced local production of the sixth generation E-Class Long Wheelbase in India. The new E-Class LWB will be launched on 9th October, while official bookings are already open.

This is the sixth-generation model and will be assembled at the Mercedes Chakan facility.

The new-gen E-Class LWB is now 13mm taller and 14mm longer than its predecessor, with a 15mm increase in wheelbase as well, taking it even closer to the S-Class. It measures 5092 mm long, 1800 mm wide, and 1493 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 3094 mm.

Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, emphasized the importance of this model: “The LWB New E-Class underscores our pioneering spirit of making in India. We are confident that the ‘Made in India, for India’ E-Class will set new standards in luxury, intuitive technology, and safety.”

Notably, India is the only global market producing the LWB E-Class in its right-hand drive (RHD) configuration, highlighting the country’s strategic importance in Mercedes-Benz’s global operations.

Mercedes will be offering two engine options with the new E-Class: a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol and a 2.0-liter diesel. The former kicks out 201 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque, while the latter is 194 bhp and 440 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as standard.

The expected price for the new E-Class LWB will start at around Rs 82 lakhs.

The E-Class LWB will compete with the BMW 5 Series LWB in the Indian market.
