Tesla’s New 6-Seater SUV is Here! Model Y Long Wheelbase Debuts at ₹61.99 Lakh

Tesla has officially launched the Model Y L, a new long-wheelbase six-seater variant of its electric SUV in India, priced at ₹61.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Model Y long-wheelbase version hasn’t yet been introduced in the United States, but is already on sale in markets like China. In China, the Model Y L is priced at 339,000 yuan (approximately $49,600).
Compared to its standard sibling, the Model Y sits on a 150 mm longer wheelbase and measures in at 4,976 mm long, 2,129 mm wide and 1,668 mm tall. In comparison, the standard Model Y sits at 4,797 mm long and 1,624 mm tall, while the width is identical.
Interestingly, the Tesla Model Y L sits between the existing Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive variants, which are priced at Rs 59.89 lakh and Rs 67.89 lakh, respectively.
Model Y L gets a 2+2+2 seating layout with captain seats in the second row. These seats come with heating, adjustable armrests, and power folding. The third row is also more usable, with its own AC vents, USB ports, and cupholders.
Battery Pack & Range
| Battery | 82 kWh |
|---|---|
| No of electric motor(s) | 2 |
| Drivetrain | All-wheel drive |
| Power | 193 PS (front), 269 PS (rear) |
| Acceleration (0 to 100 kmph) | 5 seconds |
| Claimed Range (WLTP) | 681 km |
What’s the Catch?
Because the car is a Completely Built Unit (CBU) imported from China, the price tag reflects high import duties. While ₹61.99 lakh is the starting point, opting for premium colors like “Ultra Red” or adding the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package (an extra ₹6 lakh) can push the on-road price closer to ₹70 lakh depending on your state.

Verdict
The Tesla Model Y L is a clear signal that Tesla is moving beyond the “tech enthusiast” niche and targeting the luxury family market in India. It offers a blend of supercar performance, minivan practicality, and cutting-edge tech that is hard to find elsewhere at this price point.
The Hits:
- The VFM Factor: For ₹2.1 Lakh more than the base model, you get AWD and two extra seats.
- Storage: With all seats down, you get a staggering 2,539 litres of boot space.
- V2L Charging: You can now power your appliances directly from the car—perfect for weekend camping.
The Misses:
- No Ventilated Middle Seats: In a climate like India’s, heating (which it has) is less useful than cooling (which it lacks in the 2nd row).
- Low Ground Clearance: At 122mm (laden), you’ll need to be extra careful over those Bangalore or Mumbai speed breakers.
