Vietnam’s Vingroup is officially launching its all-electric ride-hailing subsidiary, Green SM (Green and Smart Mobility), in India on June 5, 2026.

This launch introduces a new competitor for established aggregators like Uber and Ola, filling a market gap left by the suspension of BluSmart.

Timed perfectly with World Environment Day, the official rollout will commence with a high-profile Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. This move marks India as the fifth international market for GSM (following Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and the Philippines).

Cabs as Moving Billboards: VinFast’s Marketing Play

Vingroup is playing a high-stakes game here. Instead of relying solely on traditional marketing to build retail trust for its automotive brand, VinFast, the company is turning the Indian streets into a live showroom. Every Green SM cab on the road is essentially a moving billboard and a real-world test-drive experience for Indian consumers.

A Premium, Fleet-Owned Disruptor

Unlike standard aggregators like Uber or Ola, which rely on independent driver-partners and personal vehicles, Green SM operates on a fully fleet-owned and company-managed model. This setup gives Vingroup absolute control over service quality, vehicle maintenance, and driver behavior—areas where traditional aggregators often face heavy criticism.

Green SM is entering India with a strategy designed to address the primary pain points of modern commuters: unpredictable pricing and frequent driver cancellations.

Because the service does not rely on independent owner-operators who cherry-pick routes, passengers will experience virtually zero booking cancellations. Once a ride is assigned via the Green SM app, the driver is obligated to fulfill it.

Phase 1 Expansion Strategy

• Geographic Focus: Initial expansion will target North India immediately after the Delhi-NCR rollout, before moving into other domestic regions.
• Car Fleet Size: The first operational phase will deploy 10,000 electric cars for customers.

To support this massive rollout, a aggressive driver recruitment drive has been underway across Delhi-NCR. Green SM is offering drivers fixed monthly salaries ranging between ₹35,000 and ₹40,000, alongside comprehensive insurance incentives. This structured payout aims to attract top-tier drivers and ensure a highly disciplined, courteous service.

Multi-Sector Expansion and Infrastructure Investments

Vingroup is preparing to diversify its Indian footprint by expanding into the electric scooter and bus segments alongside its car offerings. To support this rapid growth, the company recently announced large-scale capital investments aimed at expanding its active vehicle manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu.

Furthermore, Vingroup is targeting Telangana and Maharashtra with massive infrastructure packages focused heavily on establishing extensive EV charging networks and driving localized green mobility. Beyond the automotive landscape, these massive multi-state funds are also designated to launch and support comprehensive regional developments, covering localized tourism, real estate developments, and social infrastructure projects.
