Tesla Model Y has been spied testing near Mumbai –Pune expressway for the first time, further fuelling speculation about Tesla’s official debut in the country.
The heavily camouflaged test mule of the Tesla Model Y facelift indicates that the car is currently undergoing homologation.
The American electric vehicle giant, led by Elon Musk, has already signed a lease for its first showroom in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). The company has applied for homologation of both the Model 3 and Model Y, confirming that both these EVs will be part of Tesla’s initial lineup for India.
The updated Model Y was revealed globally earlier this year, borrows several design cues from the futuristic Cybertruck. Key styling changes include a split headlight design and full-width LED light bars at both the front and rear ends.
Notably, Tesla has also recently started hiring in India, with the jobs currently being related to charging infrastructure.

Overseas, the Model Y is available in a single configuration featuring an all-wheel drive system paired with a long-range battery pack. It boasts an EPA-rated range of 526 kilometres, with a top speed of 200 km/h, and can sprint from 0 to 96 km/h in just 4.6 seconds.
