Maruti e Vitara launch delayed again!
Quick Read
Summary is AI-generated, newsroom-reviewed- Maruti Suzuki has clarified that a major chunk of volumes will be reserved for exports, with a limited number earmarked for domestic sales.
Maruti Suzuki e Vitara’s launch has been delayed and will now be officially launched in September. Maruti’s first EV was expected to go on sale in March, which means that the launch has been delayed by about 6 months.
The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara made its India debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in January.
Chairman R.C. Bhargava has confirmed that customer deliveries will now commence towards the end of September. Initially unveiled at the Auto Expo 2025, the e Vitara was originally slated for launch in March 2025.
Maruti plans to build the e Vitara in its Gujarat plant and they will be building nearly 70,000 units, most of which will be slated for exports to other countries.
Earlier, the company faced several battery supply and software problems, which has caused the delay in the start of production (SOP) of the e Vitara electric SUV by at least 5 months. Initially, these hurdles had forced the pushback of production commencement from September 2024 to February 2025.
This delay could potentially affect Suzuki’s plans to enter Europe’s competitive EV market, as Maruti Suzuki is a significant export base for the eVX, with a substantial portion of the planned output earmarked for overseas markets. Moreover, the recent announcement by Bhargava marks the second major postponement in the vehicle’s introduction to the market
The first electric SUV from Maruti will be featuring a new D-cut steering with with physical keys mounting for different controls. Based on Toyota’s 27PL platform, the eVX will be a Vehicle-to-load EV available with multiple battery and drivetrain options. We could see it offering over 500 km range on a single charge.
Additionally, the e Vitara will be among the brand’s safest cars to date, equipped with Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems, front and rear disc brakes, an electronic parking brake, and seven airbags, including a driver knee airbag.
