MG Windsor EV Launched in India; Prices Start at Rs 9.99 lakh

JSW MG Motor India has launched its much-awaited mass-market electric car, Windsor. The prices start at Rs 9.99 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom).

The Windsor is MG’s first product in the country since it announced its partnership with JSW earlier this year and the third EV in the automaker’s lineup after the ZS EV and the Comet.

The Windsor EV is an electric crossover that sits just between the Comet EV and the ZS EV in MG’s Indian EV portfolio.

The test drives are scheduled to kickstart on September 25. This will be followed by bookings for the 2024 Windsor EV that will open on 3 October.

Deliveries for the Windsor will commence on 12 October, on the festive day of Dussehra this year.

The MG Windsor EV is built on the same platform as the Wuling Cloud EV sold in the international markets, drawing plenty of inspiration from it.

The Windsor is available in three trims: Excite, Exclusive, and Essence.

MG Motor India has also introduced its 3-60 buyback plan for the Windsor that ensures a 60% retention of its value after 3 years/45,000 km.

MG Windsor: Interior

Inside, the Windsor EV gets a 15.6-inch Grandview Touch Display—the largest touchscreen infotainment system in the segment. Additionally, the 5-seater gets sofa-themed seats wearing bubble-style synthetic leather that can recline up to 135 degrees.

Other features include a 2-spoke steering wheel with a digital instrument cluster, an Infinity View glass roof, a powered tailgate, power-adjustable front seats, a wireless phone charger, and connected car tech.

MG Windsor: Exterior

The Windsor EV maintains the stance and shape of an MPV, following a minimalist design. The design highlights include LED daytime running lights (DRLs), vertically stacked LED headlamps and taillights, an integrated spoiler, and flush-fitting door handles. An illuminated MG logo is placed at the front alongside the charging inlet. Inspired by the Wuling Cloud EV, MG’s latest EV in India also comes with a glass roof, which the company calls ‘Infinity View’.

MG Windsor: Dimensions

In terms of dimensions, it measures 4,295 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,677 mm in height.

The EV has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, which could potentially result in more space for passengers at the back compared to the MG ZS EV.

MG Windsor: Color options

The MG Windsor will be available in four colors: Starburst Black, Pearl White, Clay Beige, and Turquoise Green.

MG Windsor: Battery and Range

The MG Windsor is equipped with a 38 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor capable of 136 PS maximum power and 200 Nm of peak torque.

The 5-seater EV comes with a claimed driving range of 331 km on a full charge.

The Windsor can replenish back to 80 percent from 0 in 55 minutes. It is retailed with a 3.3 kW AC charger that helps do 0-100 percent in 14 hours, and the 7.7 kW AC charger does it in 6.5 hours.

First owners of the MG Windsor EV will benefit from the lifetime battery warranty.

Charging Benefits: To enhance convenience, the company is offering a lifetime battery warranty to the first owner of MG Windsor. Also, it comes bundled with one year of free public charging with the eHUB by MG app.

MG Windsor: Safety

The Windsor EV boasts over 35 safety features, including six airbags, ABS with EBD, all four disk brakes, ESC, and a 360-degree camera. The vehicle also has front and rear parking sensors.
