Citroen Basalt Scores 4 stars in BNCAP Crash Tests.

The Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV has scored a four-star safety rating at the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP).
The test reports have revealed that the Basalt SUV has secured four stars for both, adult and child occupant protection. Notably, the adult protection score stood at 26.19 out of 32. Meanwhile, the child occupant protection was rated at 35.90 out of 49.
The scores of the Basalt are applicable for all variants of that get safety features including six airbags, ESC, Isofix anchors, and hill-start assist, along with three-point seat belts and seat belt reminder. Citroen Basalt is the first car in its segment to achieve full points for Side Crash Protection in the Adult Occupant Protection category.
The variants tested include the “You” and “Plus” for the naturally aspirated petrol versions, and the “Plus” and “Max” guises for the turbo-petrol versions. Both manual and automatic gearbox versions of the vehicle were included in the test. The tests were conducted in August.
The Citroën Basalt’s safety features six airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX mounts, hill hold control, and 3-point seat belts for all seats as standard. It also uses high-strength steel, Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS), and Ultra High Strength Steel (UHSS) to absorb front and side impacts, reducing cabin intrusion and protecting passengers.
On the performance front, the Citroen Basalt offers two engine variants. The entry-level variants are powered by a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated engine delivering 80bhp and 115Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. For those seeking more power, there’s a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine available, which produces 109 bhp and 190 Nm with the 6-speed manual and 205 Nm when paired with the automatic transmission.
In terms of features, the Basalt comes with a 10.2-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay plus climate control, a rear view camera, six airbags, sliding armrests, rear ac vents, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The basalt also gets a thigh support adjustment.
The Citroen Basalt is priced at Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and competes with subcompact SUVs such as the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet, and Hyundai Venue.
